For this client, we were asked to design a system that would help run the farmhouse and farm outbuilding during the day and charge batteries with any surplus energy, contributing to the night-time running.
As with many of our enquiries, the client's fixed energy deal was ending, and it was predicted that their energy bill would more than double. We had access to billing data from a total consumption perspective, but this data didn't help us understand daytime versus night-time consumption. We, therefore, installed a PEL Power Analyser to record the electricity usage profile for eight days. This aided with our design not only from a peak power generation need but also helped with our understanding of the single-phase and three-phase loadings. This information was also critical for Inverter selection and the battery storage design.
Early indications show that this system covers circa 70% of this property's running costs per annum.
